dilation and curettage (D&C) is a surgical procedure where the cervix is dilated (opened) and the uterine lining (endometrium) is scraped away using a curette. It's used both for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, such as to diagnose abnormal bleeding or to remove tissue after a miscarriage.
